Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey gave up the game when he gloated over former President Donald Trump’s indictment. The charges have not been revealed but the case is based on Stormy Daniels so it will be flimsy. And Trump has the John Edwards defense should he want it.
But Comey, who targeted Trump and Hillary from his perch at the FBI, which should have gotten him thrown in the clink, gloating over a political prosecution shows you his true colors.
His behavior with Hillary and Trump exposed him as a power-hungry bureaucrat and now we know he is a vindictive one too. Comey should listen to Alan Dershowitz and Jonathan Turley, who think Bragg will have an uphill climb when he brings his case, before spouting off.
Or Ron DeSantis who will not help if Bragg seeks to extradite Trump. Comey said: “It’s been a good day.”
DeSantis said:“The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head. It is un-American. The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct.
“Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent. Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda.”
Mike Pompeo said:
“The Manhattan DA is undermining America’s confidence in our legal system.
“Bragg is the same Soros-funded prosecutor who refuses to prosecute violent crimes and who has downgraded more than half of all felonies to misdemeanors.
“Prosecuting serious crimes keeps Americans safe, but political prosecutions put the American legal system at risk of being viewed as a tool for abuse.
“DA Bragg – spend taxpayers’ money and your energy protecting law-abiding citizens. Not playing politics.”
Jonathan Turley said: “First of all, it’s a federal crime the Department of Justice chose not to prosecute.
“Bragg’s own predecessor declined to prosecute it, but he is attempting to bootstrap that federal crime into a state case.
“And if that is the basis for the indictment, I think it’s rather outrageous.
“I think it’s legally pathetic.
“If he’s using the bootstrap theory, which is the only one that’s been discussed publicly, that is unprecedented.
“And I expect that New York judges will have the same reaction of many of us, including people on the left, that this doesn’t read right.
“Under Bragg’s theory, he could take any unproven federal crime and revive a long dead misdemeanor and turn it into a felony.
“That’s going to really, you know, raise concerns for a number of judges.
“But once it gets to the appellate level, he’s going to have a particularly difficult time, in my view,” he said.
It’s been a good day.
