Vice President Kamala Harris has lower favorability ratings than any recent American politician. And for good reason. Harris is the worst kind of wishy-washy politician and proves it every time she opens her mouth.
Now her speech trashing Trump (See Below) for sending troops to the southern border is coming back to haunt her as Joe Biden does the exact same thing. A US official said in a statement: “At the request of DHS, DOD will provide a temporary increase of an additional 1,500 military personnel, for 90 days, to supplement CBP efforts at the border.
“These 1,500 military personnel will fill critical capability gaps, such as ground-based detection and monitoring, data entry, and warehouse support, until CBP can address these needs through contracted support.
“They will not be doing any law enforcement work.” Pentagon spokesman Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder confirmed that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had approved the deployment. He said:
“Military personnel will not directly participate in law enforcement activities.
“This deployment to the border is consistent with other forms of military support to DHS over many years.”
DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Title 42 expiring:
“We do expect that encounters at our southern border will increase as smugglers are seeking to take advantage of this change and already are hard at work spreading disinformation that the border will be open after that.
“High encounters will place a strain on our entire system, including our dedicated and heroic workforce and our communities.
“Let me be clear: Our border is not open and will not be open after May 11.”
But when Trump sent troops to the border Kamala said:
“I also believe that the administration made a decision to deploy them based on a political agenda and I believe that it is inappropriate to require the limited resources of the United States military to be used in such a way.
“When it was, you know, these folks who are being deployed there, they’re gonna leave, they’ve left their families, they will not be home, it looks like, for Thanksgiving.
“And all because there needed to be some demonstration for the TV cameras based on a political agenda instead of what is a national security threat.”
The U.S. soldiers would come from a variety of Army units. They will serve in administrative and transport roles so law enforcement and Border Patrol can deal with the expected surge.
The troop deployment will be similar to deployments to the border ordered by former President Donald Trump.
According to Fox News:
In preparation for the end of Title 42, the Biden administration has developed a new asylum rule that will bar migrants from being eligible to claim asylum if they have crossed into the U.S. illegally, have not scheduled an appointment via the CBP One app, and have not claimed asylum in a country through which they previously passed.
While Mayorkas has stressed that the “presumption of ineligibility” will be rebuttable and there are exemptions made for some people, it has enraged some Democrats and immigration activists who claim it is similar to the Trump-era transit ban and that it encroaches on the right of anyone from anywhere in the world to claim asylum at the U.S. border.
According to Politico:
The additional troops, which are being sent to fill a request from the Department of Homeland Security, will fill “critical capability gaps,” including detection and monitoring, data entry and warehouse support, according to one of the officials.
They will be there for up to 90 days, after which military reservists or contractors will do the work, two of the officials said.
If Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin approves the official request from the Department of Homeland Security Tuesday, as expected, the soldiers would join 2,500 National Guard troops already activated to assist law enforcement at the border, according to a Defense Department official who, like the three officials quoted for this story, was granted anonymity to speak ahead of an announcement.
