Madonna has been hospitalized due to a “serious” infection and has halted her tour. Her manager and producer, Guy Oseary, announced on Instagram that the “Material Girl” singer, 64, was in the ICU due to the health scare but is expected to recover.
He said on social media: “On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in the ICU. Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.”
“At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”
Madonna’s Celebration World Tour started next month.
“She is out of the ICU now and recovering,” a source later told People magazine.
According to Pitchfork:
Madonna’s Celebration Tour was scheduled to begin on Saturday, July 15, in Vancouver. The tour, which stretches into January of next year, had been sent to have additional stops in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Europe, and the United Kingdom.
As Guy Oseary noted in his statement, it is not currently clear when the tour will begin.
Since announcing the Celebration Tour in January, Madonna has released songs with Sam Smith (“Vulgar”) and the Weeknd (“Popular”).
