John Eastman, a former attorney to former President Donald Trump who was charged and arrested in tandem with the ex-president in the Georgia election indictment, says that the investigation against them has been a violation of some of their First Amendment rights.
“We did nothing wrong. We were challenging the election for what even Vice President Pence described as serious allegations of fraud and numerous instances of officials violating state law,” Eastman told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham during a Tuesday appearance on “The Ingraham Angle.”
The former attorney later added: “And if we can’t speak out about that then our freedom of speech, our right to petition the government for redress of grievances are gone.”
Eastman surrendered to authorities at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia on Aug. 22 and was released on $100,000 bond. He is the second co-defendant named in the 13-count, 98-page indictment against Trump and his co-conspirators for their attempts to overturn the 2020 election results in the Peach State.
Trump and his co-defendants were charged as part of a “criminal organization,” labeling them as a racketeering enterprise.
Eastman’s arraignment is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sept. 6 and he has not yet entered a plea.
