Nancy Pelosi refused to endorse embattled Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s running mate in a weird interview on CNN. She offered some lukewarm praise for Kamala but would not say the magic words on national television.
Harris is seen as a gamble because she is not ready for primetime and Biden is old. Pelosi did say she wanted Biden to run again while expressing some concern for his age. She said:
“I think so. Yes. President Biden has — he has great experience and wisdom. He’s been at this for a long time, as you know, as a senator, vice president, and now president.
“He has a vision for our country that’s about fairness and justice and addressing the kitchen table issues of America’s working families.
“There may be some concerns’ among Democrats about his age but that everybody’s for him. “Overwhelmingly, everybody’s for him.
When asked if Harris was “the best running mate for this president” Pelosi said:
“He thinks so, and that’s what matters.
“She’s very politically astute.
“I don’t think people give her enough credit.
“Her values are consistent with the president’s values. Why would she be vice president if she were not?’
Pushed by Anderson Cooper to say the magic words, Pelosi dodged the question with a smile:
“She’s the Vice President of the United States.
“And when people say to me, ‘well, why isn’t she doing this or that?’
“I say, ‘because she’s the vice president.
“That’s the job description.
“You don’t do that much.”
