After Kevin McCarthy made history by becoming the first Speaker of the House of Representatives to be removed from power, many thought he would try to run for the post again.
Congressman Troy E. Nehls just announced that McCarthy has thrown in the towel and will not run for Speaker again. Instead, Nehls officially nominated former President Donald Trump to the post.
The Speaker does not have to be an elected Representative so Trump, if he wanted to, could run for the job. Nehls said: “Kevin McCarthy will NOT be running again as Speaker. I nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the House.
8 Republicans joined with Democrats to remove McCarthy as Speaker after 269 days.
The 8 Republicans were Buck, Biggs, Burchett, Crane, Gaetz, Good, Mace, and Rosendale.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) who led the charge to remove Kevin said, “I have no desire to be speaker of the house.
“He has risen to power by collecting special interest money and redistributing that money in exchange for favors.
“We are breaking the fever and we should elect a speaker who is better.”
