Elon Musk’s purge of blue check marks from Twitter accounts verified under the company’s previous shady system has begun and some Hollywood stars are not happy.
Alyssa Milano cried like a baby after she lost hers suggesting Musk could be liable for defamation or fraud. She said: “So by revoking my blue check mark because I wouldn’t pay some arbitrary fee, someone can just be me and say a bunch of bullshit. Does that mean Twitter and @elonmusk are liable for defamation or identity theft or fraud?
Journalist Julie Melner whined: “Elon thinks this is a funny joke. As a former verified account who lost their blue checkmark, I know how dangerous this really is. People are going to die.”
Some of the other celebrities who lost their blue check mark include Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Selena Gomez, and Bill Gates.
Justin Timberlake, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Oprah Winfrey, Beyoncé, and Donald Trump.
But at least three celebrities got to keep their check mark because Elon paid for them personally.
The three were some of the loudest complainers about the new plan, Stephen King, LeBron James, and William Shatner.
Stephen King said: “My Twitter account says I’ve subscribed to Twitter Blue. I haven’t. My Twitter account says I’ve given a phone number. I haven’t.”
Musk said later he paid for: “Just Shatner, LeBron and King.”
So by revoking my blue check mark because I wouldn’t pay some arbitrary fee, someone can just be me and say a bunch of bullshit. Does that mean Twitter and @elonmusk are liable for defamation or identity theft or fraud?
