On January 14, 2024, just before 3:40 p.m., Officer Brad Steve with East Rochester Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call of “cause unknown” at an apartment on Garfield Street. Officer Steve encountered Noel in the driveway. Despite repeated commands, 52-year-old Raymond Noel entered the residence and refused to comply.
As Officer Steve opened the door to confront him, gunfire erupted. Both men were injured—Noel struck in the torso by police fire and Steve saved by his bulletproof vest.
Noel was charged with attempted aggravated murder, attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer, and criminal possession of a weapon (2nd).
He was found guilty in November 26, 2024. A judge sentenced Noel, to 35 years to life in prison for the shooting.
