The Louisville Metro Police Department released the bodycam footage of the police engaging with and taking down bank shooter Connor Sturgeon. Louisville Metro Police Department Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said:
“I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that, you know, the most heroic things at the peak of our career that we do are shrouded in other people’s tragedies. It is clear from the officers’ response that they absolutely saved people’s lives. This was a tragic event.”
LMPD officers Cory Galloway and rookie Nick Wilt were the first officers to arrive at the scene. The officers exchanged gunfire with Sturgeon. Wilt was shot in the head and Galloway was grazed in the shoulder by a bullet.
Wilt, 26, was transported to a hospital and underwent brain surgery but is said to be in a critical but stable condition.
Humphrey said:
“This young man went back in to the line of fire in order to protect others, and you’re going to see that and how he made his decisions and how they ultimately protected other people’s lives.”
At one point Galloway says: “The shooter has an angle on that officer. We need to get up there, I don’t know where he’s at, the glass is blocking him.”
“God, don’t have an angle,” then moves slightly right and exchanges fire with Sturgeon.
He then shouts “I think I got him down, I think he’s down, get down on the floor now, get down the stairs.”
Slain victims included a personal friend of Gov.Andy Beshear, Tommy Elliott, 63, as well as Joshua Barrick, 40, Deana Eckert, 57, Jim Tutt, 64, and Juliana Farmer, 45.
