Hundreds of teenagers swarmed downtown Chicago Saturday night overwhelming police and causing chaos and mayhem in their wake. 2 boys were shot. Car windows were smashed. One car was set on fire.
A woman whose car was smashed by people jumping on the windshield said her husband was beaten as he sat in the driver’s seat. He was taken to the hospital. They tried to break into Millennium Park and at least one museum.
This is the third consecutive night of mayhem and failed Mayor Lori Lightfoot is nowhere to be found. She is on the job to the middle of May.
Alderman Raymond Lopez said:
“Where is @chicagosmayor & @CPDSupt? For two nights there is chaos on the streets.
“How can @Chicago_Police keep our neighborhoods safe when they keep sending our PO’s out of their assigned beats (answering 911s) to downtown in order protect @artinstitutechi, the Bean, etc?
“Lots of weekend tweets from usual criminal enablers about 31st St beach car fire, refusing to let facts get in the way of their narrative.
“They defended the innocent “kids” wilding yet mayhem ensued after they pulled the owner out of his car, destroyed it & set it on fire. #Facts”
According to CWB Chicago:
Around 8:50 p.m., officers radioed that they came upon two robbery victims who were attacked during the incident. The pair was transported to Insight Hospital for treatment.
A CPD spokesperson said further details were not available on Sunday morning because the case report had not been finalized.
Chicago police made several arrests throughout the incident, but the exact number of people taken into custody is not known.
Chicago police officers escorted tourists and others to their cars in Millennium Park garage, the station said.
