Christopher Cruz, the Chicago criminal who was stopped in the middle of a crime and pinned to the ground until police arrived by 3rd-degree black belt jiu-jitsu instructor Idriz Redzovic has pleaded guilty.
A CPD spokesperson said at the time: “The offender took a fighting stance, at which time the employee informed the offender that if he did not leave the police would be called.
“The offender then punched the victim and a witness detained the offender until police arrived,” Chicago police added. Cruz can be seen begging with the black belt in the video to let him go in the video below but Redzovic refused.
After subduing the crook, Redzovic live-streamed the event and went viral. “Hey, hey, homie. Let me go, man, homie,” Cruz begged at one point in the video.
“What are you, Russian? Syrian?” Cruz asked as Redzovic in the video
“I’m Bosnian,” Redzovic replied.
“We’re Bosnian homies” Cruz tried,
“You’re a Bosnian nothing,” said Redzovic.
“He assaulted a 7-Eleven employee, so I jumped in and took him to the ground and did a gift wrap hold, which is taught in the art of Jiu-Jitsu,” Redzovic said.
According to CWB Chicago:
He pleaded guilty to the retail theft and battery charges in exchange for a 60-day sentence, which was satisfied by time served, according to court records.
Separately, he pleaded guilty to aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a stolen motor vehicle in exchange for a sentence of two years probation from Judge Shelley Sutker-Dermer, records show.
The gun case is eligible for dismissal if he completes the probation program successfully, a filing by Cruz’s defense attorney said.
