Former President Donald Trump said he will be arrested by the ‘highly political’ Manhatten District Attorney Tuesday. If Trump is right it will go down in history as a massive blunder. New York doesn’t put violent criminals in jail and they are going to arrest Trump for a misdemeanor?
It is a BS charge too because campaign finance laws are rarely followed to the letter by any candidate. And Trump has the John Edwards defense should he use it. In that case, former, a jury acquitted former Dem presidential candidate John Edwards on the same charges because Edwards said he paid the money to protect his family from embarrassment.
Also, the feds refused to prosecute this weak case and the Manhattan DA, Alvin Bragg, also refused to prosecute the case earlier. So what changed? Bragg probably wants to run for higher office. Chuck Schumer is getting old.
This will backfire. And it will take the wind out of the sails of any charges Trump faces in Georgia, a much more problematic case for Trump. The New York case will show this is political which will make it nearly impossible for Georgia prosecutors to bring their case.
But Bragg thinks he can take Chuck Svhumer’s Senate seat so it looks like he will make the blunder.
If you don’t believe me, take a look at what Trump hater David Frum said:
“Former presidential candidate John Edwards was indicted in 2011 for redirecting other people’s money to buy an ex-lover’s silence. He was acquitted. Lesson: juries allow leeway for messy personal lives, even if the mess generates a campaign finance violation.
“Given that precedent, it’s very surprising to me that New York State prosecutors would pursue a criminal prosecution of Donald Trump on the Stormy Daniels matter.
“What’s especially worrying about the reportedly pending indictment of Trump is the risk that prosecutors may think: Edwards was only acquitted because he faced a friendly jury in North Carolina – but Trump can be convicted because may face an unfriendly jury in New York.
“New York prosecutors prosecuted and won a case of criminal tax fraud against the Trump organization. They told the jury that those corporate frauds were personally directed by Trump himself. Why not pursue THAT line of investigation? This one instead … is a bad mistake.
Trump said:
“Now illegal leaks from a corrupt & highly political Manhattan district attorneys office, which has allowed new records to be set in violent crime & whose leader is funded by George Soros, indicate that, with no crime being able to be proven, & based on an old & fully debunked (by numerous other prosecutors!) fairytale, the far & away leading republican candidate & former president of the United States of America, will be arrested on Tuesday of next week.”
Given that precedent, it’s very surprising to me that New York State prosecutors would pursue a criminal prosecution of Donald Trump on the Stormy Daniels matter. 2/x

“This is a huge development.” Final preparations being made to arrest Donald Trump next week. Trump will “be fingerprinted and processed like every other defendant”. The Secret Service will make the decision whether to handcuff the former president or not. (Video: Fox News) pic.twitter.com/u36MW0680U

“We are learning that the Manhattan DA office has asked for a meeting with law enforcement ahead of a potential Trump indictment. The meeting is to discuss logistics for some time next week which would mean they are anticipating an indictment next week” pic.twitter.com/IkbM46Naoe
