Twitter CEO Elon Musk turned up the heat on his feud with Bill Gates and threatened to sue Microsoft accusing the software giant of illegally using Twitter’s data to train its artificial intelligence engine.
This came after Microsoft balked at paying Twitter for use of its API. Twitter Daily News reported: “Microsoft drops Twitter from its advertising platform as they refuse to pay Twitter’s API fees. Starting on April 25, 2023, Smart Campaigns with Multi-platform will no longer support Twitter.
“You’ll be unable to: Access your Twitter account through our social management tool, Create and manage drafts or Tweets, View past Tweets and engagement, Schedule Tweets, Other social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn will continue to be available.”
Musk responded with: “They trained illegally using Twitter data. Lawsuit time.
“OpenAI was created as an open source (which is why I named it “Open” AI), non-profit company to serve as a counterweight to Google.
“But now it has become a closed source, maximum-profit company effectively controlled by Microsoft. Not what I intended at all.”
The backstory is Microsoft is using OpenAI for its artificial intelligence engine.
Musk was part of the team that founded Open AI.
Musk donated the first $100 million to the open-source non-profit as a hedge against one or more companies having access to a powerful AI engine while the public gets left behind.
But after OpenAI released its blockbuster product and saw adoption rates soar past any tech platform to date, OpenAI went private and allowed Microsoft to buy controlling interest in the product.
This will be a blockbuster lawsuit that will impact the future as AI will be everywhere soon.
