Tech billionaire Elon Musk is once again making headlines with his long-standing challenge to Wikipedia: change its name to “Dickipedia,” and he will donate a staggering $1 billion to the platform.
Musk first made the offer in 2023 as a tongue-in-cheek jab at the online encyclopedia, which he has repeatedly criticized for alleged bias and censorship. While many dismissed the proposal as a joke, Musk has continued to stand by the offer, reiterating that he is willing to follow through if Wikipedia agrees to the name change.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has been a vocal critic of Wikipedia’s editorial policies, claiming that the platform is controlled by left-leaning activists who manipulate information to serve ideological agendas. By offering an enormous sum of money under a ridiculous condition, Musk appears to be highlighting what he sees as the site’s willingness to compromise principles for financial gain.
So far, Wikipedia has not budged on the offer, with its parent organization, the Wikimedia Foundation, refusing to take the bait. However, Musk’s challenge continues to fuel debates about the neutrality and reliability of online information sources.
