Far-left activists stormed the Tennessee State Capitol building and filled the hallways while chanting slogans today. Protesters took over both indoor and outdoor spaces.
The Republican-majority Legislature gathered at the Capitol on Thursday to start the legislative session for the first time since the Nashville shooting. Protestors want the GOP to enact stricter gun control laws.
“We’re here because we still believe that we can make change. We can. It’s a tough state, I get it,” said organizer Maryam Abolfazli, to a local news outlet.
Two Democratic lawmakers caused a short disruption when they used a megaphone to yell, “Power to the people.”
The protests followed a candlelight vigil held in Nashville where lawmakers of both parties, First Lady Jill Biden, and musicians including Sheryl Crow gathered to honor the victims and demand more gun control.
According to WKRN:
Parents with their children and other community members said they’re rallying to support stricter gun control in the wake of the Covenant School shooting that left six people dead, including three children and three adults.

All of these people must be arrested by the FBI and thrown in solitary confinement for at least a year. Democracy depends on it. pic.twitter.com/j8ehKdTTjg
