Greg Gutfeld Says He’s Thought About Leaving ‘The Five’ For Tucker Carlson’s Old Time Slot

Fox News star Greg Gutfeld, who many consider the only person at Fox who can bring back the ratings they lost in Tucker Carlson’s timeslot, said thought about the idea of taking over Tucker’s old primetime slot and leaving his two other hit shows on Fox.

He said: “Obviously, it’s crossed my mind,” Gutfeld told The Wall Street Journal in an interview published this week. “If I did 8 o’clock, I would definitely not do The Five, and I would no longer do Gutfeld!

“Those just happen to be the two most popular shows on Fox these days. I would just do one show because I would prepare for that show like crazy.”

Tom O’Connor, the executive producer for “Gutfeld,” said:

“I think he could probably be successful in any of the timeslots.

“I mean, we were on at 3 in the morning East Coast time when we did ‘Red Eye,’ and people found us.”

“He can be the comedian in the room, he can be the smart aleck in the room, but he also can be the guy that says something profound,” said George “Tyrus” Murdoch.

According to The Wall Street Journal:

“Gutfeld!” competes head-to-head in most of the country with other late-night shows. It averaged more than 1.8 million viewers from the end of February through early May.

That’s higher than ABC’s “ Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” whose audience was more than 1.5 million in the same period, and NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” which was watched by nearly 1.4 million people, according to Nielsen data.

On occasion, it has drawn a bigger audience than the industry leader, CBS’s “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” which averaged almost 2.1 million viewers.

Below is a breakdown of the top 5 shows on cable news in May, all of which belong to Fox News:

The Five – 2.63 million (276,000 in 25-54 demographic)
