A major GOP donor who once financially backed former President Donald Trump is now a leader of the Florida chapter of No Labels’ third-party presidential bid, according to a report.
Allan Keen, a real estate developer and investor based in the Sunshine State reportedly donated more than $137,000 to Trump in the last election cycle.
Now, he has stepped up as a chapter leader for the centrist party No Labels.
“I help when I can help. I believe in the cause,” Keen told Politico.
Keen said that after the Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021, that he traded his Republican voter registration card for one that reads “No Labels Party of Florida.”
The investor first became involved with No Labels in 2016 and officially joined the Florida chapter following the 2020 election.
Keen criticized Trump, telling Politico he initially back Gov. Jeb Bush for president in 2016, but “reluctantly” voted for Trump after he earned the nomination. And although he thought Trump “did a bunch of stupid things,” he financially supported Trump’s reelection campaign and even hosted an $11,500 per person fundraiser for Trump in February of 2020, according to Politico.
“I did support him. I gave him money and went to a few events. I felt he was a better candidate at that time,” Keen told Politico.
No Labels has no yet chosen their presidential and vice presidential candidates for 2024, but they have qualified as a presidential party to feature their candidates on ballots in 10 states, including Florida, so far.
