Matthew McConaughey appeared on Lex Friedman’s hit podcast and opened up about his relationship with God. Matthew said one acting role, in particular, brought him as close to God as he has ever been.
He said the project was “True Detective” the legendary HBO series that McConaughey starred in with Woody Harrelson. McConaughey played Rust Cohle a tortured but brilliant soul.
The first season is already being hailed as one of the best shows in television history and gave Mathew’s career a huge boost. He said: “I’m not coming home tormented as Rustin Cohle.
“Am I coming home seeing torment where it should be seen?
“Am I reading the news differently?
“Are things coming out of the news and catching my eye as being bullsh*t or lies or truth that is just hard and going ‘yep’?
“Yeah, I’m seeing it through a different lens.
“But I’m seeing my life through a different lens.
“A lens that was opened up and an aperture that was opened up through Rustin Cohle.
“I was as strong spiritually with my relationship with God when I did ‘True Detective’ as I’ve ever been.”
McConaughey and Woody think they may be brothers.
“You know, where I start and where he ends, and where he starts and I end, has always been like a murky line,” McConaughey said earlier.
“And that’s part of our bromance, right?
“My kids call him Uncle Woody.
“His kids call me Uncle Matthew etc etc.
“And you see pictures of us and my family thinks a lot of pictures of him are me.
“His family thinks a lot of pictures of me are him.
“In Greece a few years ago, we’re sitting around talking about how close we are and our families.
“And my mom is there, and she says, ‘Woody, I knew your dad’ … Everyone was aware of the ellipses that my mom left after ‘knew.’
“It was a loaded K-N-E-W.”
“We went on to unpack what this ‘knew’ meant and did some math and found out that (Harrelson’s) dad was on furlough at the same time that my mom and dad were in their second divorce.
“Then there’s possible receipts and places out in West Texas where there might have been a gathering, or a meeting, or a ‘knew’ moment.”
McConaughey added the two stars are “on the precipice” of doing DNA tests.
Woody’s dad was a famous hitman.
