The New York Jets have told ex-NFL star Colin Kaepernick to go pound sand and are not interested in signing the malcontent after superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury Monday night.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz said: “I just spoke with Colin Kaepernick, who tells me his agent has reached out to the Jets about his desire to make an NFL return,” Schultz wrote. “Kaepernick remains on the West Coast working out.”
Josina Anderson, a CBS Sports reporter broke the bad news to former NFL star Colin Kaepernick. She said: “The #Jets are not pursuing Colin Kaepernick to address their immediate need for QB depth. I’m told they’ll look to at least narrow down their options today.
“The current* mindset is to bring a QB in who fits the chemistry of Zach Wilson being the guy, & knows system &/or staff.”
According to SI:
Kaepernick, one of the most significant sports headliners of the 2010s, has been out of football since 2016. That year, he began kneeling during pregame performances of the national anthem to protest police brutality and racism in the United States.
The protests set off a chain of events that culminated with Kaepernick filing a grievance against, and eventually settling with, the NFL for colluding to keep him unsigned.
On the field, the ex-Nevada star threw for 72 touchdowns against 30 interceptions in his six-year San Francisco tenure, helping the 49ers reach Super Bowl XLVII.
