NFL legend and Hall of Famer Jim Brown has died. He was 87. Brown died Thursday night, his wife, Monique, announced Friday afternoon.
She said, “It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my husband Jim Brown. He passed peacefully last night at our LA home. To the world he was an activist, actor, and football star.
“To our family he was a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, Our hearts are broken.” Brown is survived by Monique, their two children, and three children from his previous marriage to Sue.
“We lost a great fighter,” John Wooten, Brown’s former roommate with the Browns said.
He continued:
“As I talked to Monique and reflected on Jim, my mind went back to what we were.
“There were many nights when we laid in the dormitories at Hiram College, thinking about what we could do as Black players, trying to raise the level and quality around us.
“It was, ‘Are we going to stand by idly as athletes and not be involved?’
“That’s when we talked about the education and the economics; we talked about the importance of our kids being educated in the economics.”
