A new report is claiming that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis wants Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders to be his 2024 running mate. The report says DeSantis, who is trailing in the polls, is trying to recruit Sarah and get her commitment before he formally announces his campaign
“He really only has one strong choice: Sarah,” a source told RadarOnline. “He is desperate to lock up his running mate before he makes his formal announcement. He would announce his VP candidate very soon afterward.”
“He thinks it will be a one-two punch and Republicans will be hard-pressed to look past a united front, especially if it is him and Sarah,” added the campaign insider.
That would be huge for Ron but the report goes on to say that Sarah has been unimpressed with his pitch.
A source said Sanders has “refused to endorse her former boss” because she wants to see what shakes out.
“At the moment, she has a foot in both camps.
“Part of her wants to embrace the new GOP and she believes DeSantis is the man.
“But she is worried about Trump’s influence and the results of recent polls only show that.
“The governor is keeping her powder dry,” the source said.
DeSantis is expected to hold an event launching his candidacy in his hometown of Dunedin, Fla this week.
According to The Wall Street Journal, DeSantis will file formal paperwork with the Federal Election Commission declaring his candidacy around the time he is meeting with big-money donors to shore up support in Miami on May 25.
Other candidates who have already declared include Trump, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and radio host Larry Elder.
South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott also just threw his hat in the ring.
A super PAC supporting DeSantis has been running ads in key primary states.
DeSantis was just in Iowa, the first-in-the-nation GOP caucus state, where he took some swipes at Trump.
“Governing is not about building a brand or talking on social media and virtue signaling,” DeSantis said.
“It’s ultimately about winning and about producing results.”
According to Fox News:
The popular two-term conservative governor will file formal paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) next week to declare his candidacy for president, sources familiar with the governor’s decision confirm to Fox News.
The filing by DeSantis will coincide with his meeting next week in Miami, Florida with top financial backers, one source told Fox Digital.
