A shocking incident unfolded at the VHSL Class 3 State Indoor Championships at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA, when high school track athlete Kaelen Tucker was struck in the head with a baton during a relay race.
Tucker, who was running the second leg of the 4x200m relay, was reportedly bumped multiple times by another runner before finally passing her. That was when she was suddenly hit in the head with a baton, leading to a concussion and a possible skull fracture.
“When we got to the curve she kept bumping me in my arm, and when we got off the curve I finally passed her—that was when she hit me with the baton,” Tucker recalled.
Her mother revealed that neither the athlete responsible nor her coach had apologized for the incident.
As of now, it’s unclear whether Tucker will pursue legal action.
