A newly resurfaced video shows Maine Governor Janet Mills performing at a Halloween drag show in Portland, Maine, as her recent televised confrontation with former President Donald Trump continues to make headlines.
The footage, reportedly taken in 2022 at the Great Pumpkin Ball—Maine’s largest LGBTQ+ Halloween dance party—has reignited debate over the governor’s stance on gender policies.
The video’s reemergence comes just after Mills and Trump engaged in a heated exchange over her refusal to comply with his executive order banning men from competing in women’s sports. During the live confrontation, Trump directly asked the governor if she would enforce the order.
Mills responded, “I’m complying with state and federal laws.”
Trump fired back, “We are the federal law… You better do it. You better do it because you’re not gonna get any federal funding at all if you don’t.”
Mills remained defiant, telling Trump, “I’ll see you in court.”
Now, with the resurfaced footage of her drag show performance, critics and supporters alike are weighing in on her record regarding gender and LGBTQ+ policies. The Great Pumpkin Ball, where Mills performed, is known for celebrating inclusivity and LGBTQ+ rights—issues that have often clashed with Trump’s policies.
Neither Mills nor her office have commented on the video’s resurfacing, but it adds a new layer to the growing national conversation around gender, sports, and state-versus-federal authority under Trump’s latest directives.
